Chris Brown is taking legal action against the producers of the controversial Investigation Discovery docuseries “Chris Brown: A History of Violence”, accusing them of defamation and promoting false narratives about his personal life. In new court documents obtained by TMZ, the Grammy-winning artist claims that Warner Bros. Discovery, Ample, and others involved in the project falsely portrayed him as a “serial rapist” and “sexual abuser”—allegations he vehemently denies.

The lawsuit, filed by Brown in Los Angeles, asserts that the producers of the docuseries ignored evidence that contradicted their claims, even after being provided with “proof” that their narrative was false. Brown’s legal team highlights that the Jane Doe at the center of the docuseries, whose accusations of sexual assault were a major plot point, has been “repeatedly discredited” and was involved in a lawsuit against the singer that was later withdrawn. Brown claims that the suit was full of lies, and its rehashing in the series was an attempt to tarnish his reputation.

“I’ve never been found guilty of any sex-related crime,” Brown states in the legal documents, further distancing himself from the claims made in the series. He criticizes the producers for focusing on outdated and false allegations, despite his efforts to take accountability for his past mistakes, including the 2009 physical assault of his ex-girlfriend Rihanna. Brown notes that he has spent over a decade working to rebuild his image and grow as a person, both personally and professionally.

The lawsuit also underscores the significant personal and professional toll that the docuseries has taken on Brown. He argues that the portrayal of him as a violent and abusive figure has harmed his reputation, leading to lost business opportunities and public backlash. In light of the damage caused, Brown is seeking $500 million in damages.
