While wildfires ravaged Los Angeles, destroying over 20,000 acres and 5,000 homes, David Steiner’s $9 million Malibu villa remained standing amid the ruins. Known for its earthquake-resistant, fireproof design with stucco walls and a fireproof roof, Steiner attributes the survival of his property to its ultra-sturdy construction.
Steiner was shocked to learn his villa survived while his neighbors’ homes were destroyed. “I never imagined wildfires would reach the Pacific Coast Highway,” he admitted.
Grateful but empathetic, Steiner acknowledged his fortune, saying, “I lost material goods, but others lost their homes and memories.” Though his insurance only covers 50% of wildfire damages, Steiner’s focus remains on those who suffered greater losses.
