A heartbreaking case has emerged from Missouri, where a 21-year-old mother has been charged after her toddler allegedly died from starvation. Authorities claim the child went 43 hours without food, leading to a tragic and preventable death.

According to officials, Alyssa N. Wehmeyer, of Cape Girardeau, was arrested and charged with child abuse or neglect resulting in death. The investigation began after police responded to a distressing 911 call regarding an unresponsive child.

An autopsy later revealed that severe malnutrition and dehydration were the likely causes of death, with very little evidence of food found in the child’s stomach.

Wehmeyer reportedly admitted to authorities that her child had not been fed in nearly two days. However, when questioned about her neglect, her shocking excuse left investigators stunned—she claimed she had a migraine and took medication, which led her to sleep through crucial hours when her child needed care.

Authorities also noted that the child had gone nearly 19 hours without a diaper change and suffered from severe blisters due to a diaper rash. The mother had not sought medical attention for the child’s condition, worsening the already dire situation.
