State of Emergency declared in New Jersey ahead of snow

The State of Emergency, declared by Gov. Phil Murphy, went into effect at 8 a.m. Sunday. The state is expecting heavy snow totaling up to 8 inches followed by extremely low temperatures. “As always, I urge all New Jerseyans to use caution, follow all safety protocols, and remain off the roads unless absolutely necessary,” Murphy said in a post to X.

Snow will start late Sunday morning and last through the evening, followed by dangerously cold temperatures lasting through Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures will reach the single digits by Monday night. In the Lower Hudson Valley, northeast New Jersey and southern Connecticut, up to 8 inches of snow could fall at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour.
